Data the Tool Can Visualize and Analyze

The SDSS Log Viewer is designed to process, visualize, analyze the SQL query log data of the Sloan Digital Sky Survey. The log data is publicly available from the SkyServer's Web log page. In this page, there are also a few sample log data files, which can be downloaded.

In the Weblog, you can send an SQL query to retrieve SDSS Log data, including the SQL log data in the form of CSV files. For example, if want to download the SQL log data between March 12th to 18th, 2004, when the SDSS Data Release 2 occurred, you can replace the text in the text area shown in the image right with following an SQL

SELECT * FROM SqlLog WHERE yy=2004 and mm=3 and dd>11 and dd<19

Note: make sure check the "CSV" option on the right bottom of the image shown right.

Note: Download may take tens of minutes if you select a long time range.

Sample data files

Very small sample (2MB, 6425 rows): A very small data file in the format of CSV, containing queries to SDSS data archive from Dec. 25th to 31th, 2003. This file is included in all software zipped files except for the TimelineViewer.

Small sample(32MB, 127,461 rows): A small data file in the format of CSV, containing queries to SDSS data archive from Nov. 28th to 30th, 2004.

Median size sample(303M, 829,078 rows): A median size data file in the format of CSV, containing the whole queries to SDSS data archive in the month of Nov. 2008.

Large size sample(654MB, 2,018,130 rows): A large data file in the format of CSV, containing queries to SDSS data archive from Sept. 20th to 30th, 2007 in which 20th and 21st had experienced extremely high volume of visits.
